Artist Spotlight: Kevin Box

When I was in Vail last spring, I happened upon the unique sculptures of Kevin Box at Vail Village Arts. He creates origami using cast bronze, brass & stone.

I was especially drawn to this particular sculpture, so I bought it, and I love looking at it every day in my family room!

These ponies are spectacular, and they come in a variety of sizes and colors.

This series of crumpled dresses would be perfect for the lover of fashion.

Box says the crane in this conversation piece "represents peace." I tend to agree!

Pair of Peacocks

In an earlier post, I mentioned how much my 8-year-old daughter adores peacocks. What could be better than a peacock? How about a PAIR of peacocks!

If we had space for them, my daughter would *insist* of having these vintage rattan headboards (eBay -- $199!)  in her room. Of course, she'd probably make me paint them black.

I can honestly say I've never used a spoon for salt, but I'd be more than happy to use these precious spoons (eBay-- $35) for my sugar.

Dated 1919, these beautiful bookends from R. Young Antiques on Ruby Lane ($300) are sure to inspire a love of reading.

WHAT! I LOVE these gold peacock feather earrings by Gorjana ($88 on Allyson James)!

This pair of rattan peacock chairs from Again & Again on 1stdibs ($1,250) would be perfect on a covered porch with a pair of pillows like these...

Thomas Paul's Plume fabric for Duralee makes perfect 20" pillows (Etsy -- $42/pillow).

Weathering Frankenstorm

With "Frankenstorm" headed towards the east coast, I am thanking my lucky stars that I moved back to California last year. I remember an ice storm that left us without power for a week and forced me to throw out dozens and dozens of bags of once-frozen breast milk (gut-wrenching!). If I ever had to live through that again, here are some things that might make it sort of okay...

This Barclay Butera tufted armchair (on sale at One Kings Lane for $3,099) might do the trick, provided I also had a...

I love the shape of these antique brass & cast-iron andirons I found on Etsy ($278). Of course, if I was sitting by the fire, I'd also want...

If you're from Louisiana like me, only Community Coffee ($9.69) will do. Served in a super stylish mid-century Franciscan coffee pot (Etsy -- $145). Snuggled up with a...

Serena & Lily's cotton blanket ($250) would keep me warm and cozy so I could enjoy reading...

I just started reading this award-winning page-turner two nights ago, and I definitely want to finish it before the movie comes out. I suppose there is a good chance the power will go out, so the last thing I'll need is...

Burke Decor's Lucia Bourbon Vanilla & White Tea candle ($22).

Cylinder Desks

I was cleaning up my bookmarks and found a bunch from when I lived in an old Edwardian Colonial in New Jersey. At the time, I really wanted an antique cylinder desk for the parlor. Never got one, but I still love those old pieces. Here are some beauties...

A stunning piece of walnut furniture from Harp Gallery ($2,500).

Beautiful marquetry and floral design from Antiques of River Oaks on 1stdibs ($3,500).

Now that I live in a California ranch house, this desk from Horseman on 1stdibs ($1,499) is probably more appropriate.

I adore the pigeonholes and petite scale of this antique desk from French Kings Antiques.

And, pulling up a pretty little desk chair like this one from G4 Decor on 1stdibs ($850) will surely put you in the mood to compose some good ole handwritten letters.

His & Hers: Black Leather

Kelly Wearstler's ruched leather chair is just one example of how the woman can do no wrong. Her adorable leather & brass clutch is yet another.

I could do some serious porch rockin' with this pretty little eBay antique ($699). I could also stop by Zappos and grab this studded number ($298).

You can find this beechwood bad boy on Etsy ($495), designed by Ingmar Relling. Crossbody Christina bag ($138) from Nordstrom.

If you love this gorgeous chair, then I hope you live in southern California. The craigslist seller won't deliver it and only takes cash ($550)! Precious vintage purse only $40 on eBay.

Love the tufted leather and wingback style of this Frits Henningsen chair ($6,500) from Artful Dodger on 1stdibs. 1960s purse with wooden handles on Etsy (only $30!).

Spicy Fabrics

Add touches of fall to your home with fabrics like these.

Andaluz in Paprika

Okay, I may be a little biased here because I used to work for her, but Carolina Irving's textiles are so beautiful. Andaluz has always been one of my favorites, especially in this colorway.

All of the colorways for this fabric from Peter Fasano are great, but this one is perfect for fall.

I will just come out and admit it: I worship Peter Dunham. He was my mentor when I started in the design field, and working for him was a dream job. His textiles are also something to dream about!

What's not to love about this adorable woodland scene from Lee Jofa? My favorite part, though, might be the hints of teal.

Calico Corners has some really afforable, stylish fabrics, including this one. I love the scale, pattern and combination of colors.

Don't forget a cozy throw to finish off your fall decor...like this one from One Kings Lane. Sign up today and get a credit of $15 for a purchase of $30 or more.

Raising the Bar

With the holidays quickly approaching, we've all got parties and entertaining on our minds. Be festive AND stylish, and stock your bar on a vintage tea cart.

Old Plank Road is one of my favorite antique shops, and you can find this brass beauty on their website for $1,499.

A few years ago, I had a mild obsession with anything barley twist, like this beautiful oak antique on eBay ($389).

I know, this one from Mecox Gardens NYC is super expensive ($3,600), but it just too precious. And round. And lucite. And 1960s French. Love!

This steel and glass cart has such a masculine, monumental quality to it. $895 at Restoration Hardware. Also available in antiqued brass finish.

Ruby Lane never fails. Outfit your bar cart with this adorable set of 8 gold-trimmed glasses with etched atomic stars ($60!). I would buy it myself if I didn't have a crazy 3-year-old on the loose.

Made of copper & brass, this stunning German antique ice bucket serves more as art than function (it's small). $145 on eBay -- circa 1905.

Spooky but Special

Artist Joshua Harker uses lasers and software and other brainiac technology to fuse nylon with glass powder to create these incredible filigree skulls, which he sells on Etsy.

Hang this creepy cast iron owl on your porch, or use him to prop open your front door on Halloween. I found him on eBay ($120).

This acrylic painting on Etsy is precious. My kids would love it if I pulled this out of storage every year for Halloween!

I have to admit, I've never actually seen one of these elasticord chairs before. 1stdibs says they are rare. Guess so!

Fall is the best time of year to purchase outdoor furniture because it is so discounted! I've always loved Michael Taylor's designs, and you can load up on his outdoor pieces today on One Kings Lane.

Funky Art

There's nothing worse than generic, mass-produced art, in my opinion. You don't have to spend a fortune for a one-of-a-kind piece, especially one that gets people talking. Check out these funky pieces!

This adorable 1970s pair of nuns can be yours for only $175 (free shipping!) on Ruby Lane.

This Bud's for you...or the beer-lover in your life. Check it out on One Kings Lane.

I'm from Louisiana, so I always love art depicting New Orleans' shotgun houses. How creative that this artist on Etsy painted a very hip trellis pattern in the background and set the house off to the side.

I love the perspective of this painted zebra as well as the subtle blurriness beyond the head. The size of this Etsy painting could make a serious statement in the right space.

I'm a sucker for anything in matte white. This Etsy artist was inspired by coral reef textures to create these spectacular ceramic tiles. Many more in his Etsy Shop.

Etsy is such a problem. You can really get sucked into that site for hours! I love this artist's use of reclaimed wood & steel to create whimsical fish, sharks, and whales. Would be precious in a boy's bathroom or in a beach bungalow.
